What is the Ideal Cholesterol Ratio?
In order to determine the cholesterol levels in the body, it is necessary to ascertain the cholesterol ratio. The results of the cholesterol in the laboratory are analyzed in the form of the cholesterol ratio and the total amount of cholesterol present in the blood of a person.
It is important to know that how various components play an important role in the build up of cholesterol. The cholesterol is generally built up in the arteries. The risk factor of the heart problem is determined by the graph of the concentration levels of the total cholesterol present in the body. In case the concentration levels are determined in an exact way, it can clarify all the risk factors of the heart disease.
So, in order to have a complete check on the cholesterol levels in the blood, it is important to fix the cholesterol numbers. Three different types of the cholesterol in the blood are the LDL, HDL and the VLDL. The first is called the low density lipoprotein in the medical terminology. The middle connotes the high density lipoprotein while the last one is called the very low density lipoprotein.
The concentrations of all cholesterol levels are measured in terms of milligrams/deciliter. These concentration levels determine the corresponding cholesterol numbers. The total cholesterol is determined by the sum total of all the three. It is important to know that the test result is always given as the total cholesterol number. The cholesterol ration can be determined as total/HDL or LDL/HDL.
The LDL cholesterol is also called the bad cholesterol and not good for the human body. The cholesterol is responsible for the birth of cardiovascular disease. The high levels of LDL and VLDL result in the formation of plaque in the walls of the arteries which makes these walls of the arteries narrow and harden. In the medical terminology, it is called the atherosclerosis. However, the HDL cholesterol is good and in fact, removes the plaques from the walls of the arteries.
